Union Pacific®
Road Name: Streator

UP® is a registered trademark of the Union Pacific Railroad.

This 10-1-2 heavyweight sleeper car is Pullman green with gold lettering and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. Built in the early 1900s, it served on Union Pacific trains through the 1940s. Union Pacific was founded in 1862 and was part of the first Transcontinental Railroad in the United States. It continues to operate today as one of the largest Class 1 railroads in North America with over 32,000 miles of track.

Chesapeake & Ohio®
Road Name: Fort Eustis

This 10-1-2 heavyweight sleeper car is painted in the tri-color scheme and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. Built in 1911 by Pullman, it was first named “Homestead,” and later renamed “Fort Eustis” after the Army base in Newport News, Virginia. This car used on interstate C&O trains throughout the system, it continued to serve for C&O through the 1960s before being retired.

Canadian National
Road Number NKCR 9199

This 89’ tri-level closed autorack is white with black lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Owned by the Nebraska, Kansas & Colorado Railway, and lettered for Canadian National service, this design became the universal standard for most railroads. Commonly used to this day, the design prevented vandalism and pilferage and helped to protect vehicles from the elements.

Norfolk & Western
Road Numbers NW 118894/118912

These 100-ton 3-bay open hoppers with rib sides and coal load are black with white lettering and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1971 in an order of 4,000 cars for Norfolk & Western Railroad, it was painted in the new simplistic “NW” scheme. This car was used in coal service and had a 3,420 cubic foot capacity. Norfolk & Western was a Class 1 railroad headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia. Today, it is now part of the Norfolk Southern system following a 1980 merger with Southern Railway.

Miranda Sugar
Road Number MSX 1

SWEET LIQUID SERIES #4

This 39’ single dome tank car is black with white lettering and runs on Arch Bar trucks. Lettered for the Miranda Sugar Company, this insulated and heated tank car was built in 1919 for the Warner Sugar Refining Company, of Edgewater, N.J. In 1927, Warner was purchased by the National Sugar Refining Company, becoming the largest producer of refined sugar in the United States at the time.

Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Road Number ATSF 305103

This 3-bay covered hopper with elongated hatches is grey with black letteirng and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built by American Car & Foundry in June 1965, it belonged to a 20-car series. Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe was a large Class 1 railroad chartered in 1859. By the mid-1950s, it had a rail network of over 13,000 miles, and operated a vast array of both freight and passenger services. In 1996, ATSF merged with Burlington Northern to create BNSF.

Great Northern
Road Number GN 73571

This 33’ twin bay hopper with offset sides is black with white letteirng and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in October, 1931 for Great Northern Railway and belonging to a 500 car series, it had a 2,160 cubic foot capacity. Initially it was used for coal and aggregate loading, then toward the end of its revenue service in the 1960s and 70s, it was used in sugar beet service before being retired in the late 1970s.

Norfolk Southern
Road Number NS 251087

REPRINT

This 3-bay covered hopper with elongated hatches is grey with black lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1966 for Norfolk & Western it later made its way to Norfolk Southern through the 1982 merger. Today, Norfolk Southern is one of the largest Class 1 Railroads on the East Coast, with over 21,000 miles of track.

Built in the 1940s and serviced and repainted in the mid-1970s, these hoppers were used until the early 1980s. Illinois Central Gulf was a Class 1 railroad from 1972-1988 and arose from the merger of Illinois Central and Gulf, Mobile and Ohio.

Built in 1937 they belonged to Southern Railway subsidiary Cincinnati, New Orleans and Texas Pacific Railroad. Southern Railway was a Class 1 railroad that operated over 6,000 miles of track across the southern United States from 1894-1982.

Southern Pacific was a Class 1 railroad from 1865 till 1996, when it was absorbed by Union Pacific after falling on hard times financially in the 1970s and 1980s.

Canadian Pacific 140th Anniversary Car

This 50’ standard box car with 8’ plug door, no roofwalk and short ladders is black with aluminum roof and green, brown and red decorated sides. Incorporated in 1881, Canadian Pacific Railway is one of the largest Class 1 Railorads in Canada, owning over 12,000 miles of track in Canada and the United States. Canadian Pacific celebrated its 140th Anniversary in February 2021. This boxcar features three historic CP freight car paint schemes and heralds from the past and present.
