New Haven

RD#: 6724

This 78’ heavyweight paired-window coach car is Pullman Green with white lettering and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. Built in 1914 as part of series 6700-6738, these cars became one of the prime movers of freight and passengers in the first half of the 20th Century. They continued service unil 1968 when they were absorbed into the Penn Central Railway.

Canadian Pacific

RD#: 4502

This 70’ heavyweight horse car is maroon with gold lettering and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. Built in 1920 as part of series 4502-4515, these cars were originally designed and built during the days when horses were still a major mode of transportation. They provided a safe, efficient way to move livestock around the country. These cars were also fitted with doors at one end of the car to allow for easier loading and unloading making them unique.

Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe

These 50’ standard box car wtih double doors are green with gold lettering and run on Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1941 as part of series 4100-4399, these cars were converted for use as head end cars of passenger train service and were used for hauling express freight.

Canadian National w/ Ballon Roof

RD#: ‘Bonaventure’

This 3-2 heavyweight business car is painted green with black band and yellow lettering and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. As older observation cars were converted to business cars for executive use, they were also given an exterior upgrade with new siding and thermally superior windows. The changes made them look like the newer, light weight passenger cars allowing them to blend in with newer fleets.

PER DIEM Series #7 - Savannah State Docks

RD#: SSDK 1004

This 50’ rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is light blue with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. The Savannah State Docks Railroad was a switching road owned by the Georgia Ports Authority, operating as much as 25 miles of track connecting mainline railroads and dock facilities in Savannah, Georgia and participated in the Per Diem program in the 1970’s to upgrade their fleet with modern freight cars.

Navy Gas & Supply Co.

RD#: CTTX 8511

This 3-dome tank car car is aluminum with yellow and black lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. It was built for the Canton Tank Car Company and leased to the Navy Gas & Supply Company of Denver, Colorado during the 1930’s. The three domes denoted three separate compartments allowing them to carry different grades of gas or oil at the same time.

Conrail w/ Coal Load

These 100-ton 3-bay open hoppers with rib sides are iron sesqui-oxide with white lettering and herald and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1976 as part of series 495003-495499, these cars were used to transport coal and aggregates and became a fixture in the industrial Northeast.

Southern Pacific®

RD#: 1096

This 36’ riveted steel caboose with offset cupola is aluminum with black lettering and runs on Bettendorf Swing Motion trucks. Southern Pacific Railroad was one of the innovators of piggy back trailer service and to identify these trains they painted eight cabooses in the distinctive overall silver scheme. These cars were pulled from the extensive SP fleet and were painted to match their PMT highway trailers at the time. Later they would be used in general service before being repainted.
