This 50’ boxcar with Roller Bearing trucks, ATSF 10001, was the Santa Fe’s first ever Shock Control car. The Shock Control system involved a cushioned, floating underframe design along with movable bulkheads and other devices that helped to prevent damage from in-train shock forces.

Gulf, Mobile & Ohio
Road Number 74726

This 61’ bulkhead flatcar with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was built in 1965 by Thrall as a part of series of 25. It was used primarily in lumber service for the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio railroad. It had a 100-ton capacity and featured 15 Brandon load devices along the car sides to secure loose commodities such as lumber packs.

This ex-Chessie System 3-bay hopper with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was eventually merged into CSX Transportation’s fleet of hopper cars and received paint-out patches.

Western Pacific®
Road Number 1490

Built in 1978 by Thrall, this 61’ bulkhead flatcar with Roller Bearing trucks belonged to series 1451-1490 and had a load limit of 186,800 pounds. It was used by Western Pacific primarily for lumber loading. Western Pacific was a Class 1 Railroad formed in 1903 in order to offer another rail option to the established Utah routes of the Southern Pacific. WP was acquired in 1982 by Union Pacific Railroad.

Burlington Northern
Road Number 281460

REPRINT

This 40’ high-cube boxcar with Roller Bearing trucks was built in 1967 for the CB&Q. It was used in appliance service and featured a cushioned underframe and movable bulkheads. Burlington Northern was formed through the mergers of Great Northern and Northern Pacific in 1970, and then merged with ATSF in 1995 to form BNSF.

McCloud River Railroad Company
Road Number MR 12070

This McCloud River 50’ boxcar is equipped with with Barber trucks. Headquartered in McCloud, California, the McCloud River Railroad interchanged with the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific and operated from 1897 until 2009. Primarily a lumber/timber railroad, the McCloud once had over 1000 railcars, and had regular passenger service until 1952.

Manufacturers Railway Company

Built in 1949, this 40’ boxcar with Bettendorf trucks was rebuilt in 1966 and belonged to a series of 53 cars for the Manufacturers Railway Company. Manufacturers Railway operated from 1887 until 2011. The boxcars were used primarily to transport finished brewery products.
