Built in 1954 by RI from General Steel Castings components, this car was used for the transport of bulky and heavy industrial loads, such as electrical transformers and construction equipment.

This 36’ wood sheathed ice reefer with truss rods is brown with yellow decorated sides and runs on Arch Bar trucks. With a fleet of 700 cars, HEINZ was able to ship their product by rail to major markets throughout the US. These yellow sided refrigerator cars represent railcars painted throughout the late 1900s and through the ‘teens’. All cars carried the distinctive “Heinz 57” but each car advertised a different product.

This 40’ double sheathed wood box car with 1-1/2 door, and vertical brakewheel is brown with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1923 by the Mount Vernon Car Manufacturing Company, this 3666 cubic foot wood sheathed door-and-a-half boxcar belonged to series 14001-14100. Used for auto parts service until the 1950s, this car’s extra door on each side helped facilitate loading and unloading bulky components.

This 60’ excess height box car with double plug doors and rivet sides is brown with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built by Thrall in April 1969, this double-plug door boxcar was built for N&W before later becoming part of Norfolk Southern series 465600-465853. At 7000 cubic feet, this hi-cubic capacity car was used to carry lightweight but bulky commodities such as auto parts.

These SW1500 powered locomotives are reddish/orange with white band and run on AAR trucks. From the late 1960s to the early 1970s the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway enlisted 46 EMD sourced SW1500s, painting them in Mandarin orange and white. These switchers could be found at all of Frisco’s major yards until September 1980 when they were taken over by the Burlington Northern system.
These SD40-2 powered locomotives are grey with red nose and white lettering. Built in the late 1960s for Southern Pacific as an SD40, these units went through the extensive G.R.I.P. rebuild program, and were released as SD40R’s. Upgrades included electrical, crew amenity and headlight improvements. Many continued to serve in this paint scheme through the 2000s, even after SP was merged into UP in 1996.
