These FT-44-class 60’ Thrall flat car with ASF Ride Control trucks was designed to haul large vehicles such as farm, military, and construction equipment. With a wood deck and tie-down channels, the cars can be used for a number of other purposes, including hauling structural steel shapes and other bulky industrial loads. These BNSF-owned flat cars were built in 1967 by Thrall for ATSF. Burlington Northern was formed through the mergers of Great Northern and Northern Pacific in 1970, and then merged with ATSF in 1995 to form BNSF. BNSF is one of the largest freight railroads in the country with over 32,000 miles of rail.

This Conrail Maintenance of Way flat car with Bettendorf trucks was modified to include a rack to hold pre-fabricated track switch panels and other large flat assemblies. New York Central merged with its rival, the Pennsylvania Railroad, in 1968 to form Penn Central, which went bankrupt two years later and was merged into Conrail in 1976.

The Green Mountain is a Class III railroad that operates in Vermont, and was founded in 1964. Under the ownership of the Vermont Rail System since 1997, it operates both freight and passenger services.

Built in the early 1970s for Penn Central in a series of over 2500 cars, this H43d-class 3433 cubic-foot capacity 3-bay hopper with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was used in coal service. Penn Central was formed through the merger of Pennsylvania Railroad and New York Central, and operated until 1976 when it was rolled into Conrail Corporation.

This Bx-188-class excess height boxcar with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was rebuilt in the early 1970s from a smaller car built a few years earlier. It featured a cushioned underframe and movable bulkheads. Founded in 1859, Santa Fe was one of the largest railroads in North America up until 1996, when it merged with Burlington Northern to form BNSF.

The Medford, Talent & Lakecreek Railroad, while primarily a freight railroad, did operate a number of dinner excursion trains to various landmarks and destinations, including Crater Lake, the Oregon coast, and the northern California Lava Beds. During the holidays, the MT&L had a popular tradition of hosting dinner trains, adorned with festive Christmas decorations. This set includes an F7 loco, 3 78' Heavyweight Paired-Window Coach Cars, and a 83' 3-2 Heavyweight Observation Car, and all cars come with a snowy roof decoration.

These Northern Pacific 40’ external braced wood box cars in series 20000-20499 were built in the 1930’s. As their interiors became rough and not suitable for hauling loads such as grain, they would move into transport of rough freight as represented here with a stacked load of material and a conveyor unloader.

A subsidiary of TTX, Railbox was founded in 1974 to address a nationwide boxcar shortage by creating a large pool of free-running boxcars seen from coast to coast. Many of these cars are still running the rails today, having been sold off to various other railroads and repatched with new reporting marks and road numbers, often retaining the old, weathered Railbox paint underneath.
