N SCALE NEW RELEASES


New York Central

RD#: 5013

This 70’ heavyweight mail baggage car is painted in the two-tone post-war gray scheme with white ‘New York Central’ letters. The roof is black and underframe is dark gray and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. Major metropolitan areas generated a lot of correspondence and during the early 20th Century few rivaled New York. The railroad had a huge fleet of cars specifically designed to transport mail and postal freight across the country.

Canadian National

RD#: 1241

This 80’ heavyweight diner car is painted green with black band and yellow lettering and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. With the wide expanse of Canada, diners were not a luxury on their transcontinental railroads but a necessity. Given the long distance between stops, these cars provided hot meals and a meeting place for travelers.

Southern Pacific®

These 40’ despatch stock cars are brown with white lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1916 as part of series 73349-73798, SP fielded over 450 of these S-40-5 standard stock cars.

Pan Am

This 50’ rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is painted blue with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Formally known as Guilford Transportation Industries, the Massachusetts based company bought the name and logo of the former Pan American World Airways in 1998. This Class 2 railroad operates through much of New England from Maine to New York.

PER DIEM #6: Berlin Mills

This 50’ rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is painted light green with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Berlin Mills Railway provided switching and transport between two mills located in Berlin and Cascade, New Hampshire. The light green box cars could be found working interchange with GT, StL&A and BM during the 1980s.

This 70’ heavyweight baggage car runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks and is decorated similar to some of Ringling Bros.™ real life heavyweight advance cars.

CSX®

This 60’ excess height box car with double plug doors and waffle sides is blue with yellow lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1977, as part of series 223001-223122, these waffle sided cars were part of an effort by the railroads to add vertical strength when the height of their cars increased to carry more freight in a single car. These cars were acquired from Conrail and NYC but kept their original NYC road numbers.

Bangor & Aroostook

This 40’ standard box car with plug door is red with blue and red herald and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1960 as part of series 2301-2449, few railroads had a colorful fleet like the B&A did. Many of their potato cars were solid red, white and blue but later the scheme was muted somewhat with a colorful logo on a standard brown scheme. These cars were climate controlled to maintain the quality of the perishables carried.

This 40’ standard box car with single door and no roofwalk is black with gray band and runs on Bettendorf trucks. One of 50 cars built by Canadian Car & Foundry in 1939, these cars operated at the head-end of passenger trains and were equipped with steam, air and signal lines.

These 40’ standard box cars with plug doors are brown with white lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1960, as part of series 290201-290501, these cars were part of an order of 300 units that were fitted with underslung heaters to provide above freezing temperatures during long transits. They were initially used for food stuffs but also found use carrying commodities that were somewhat temperature sensitive.
