These 60’ excess height box cars with modified sides are black with blue sides and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Neptune is the eighth and farthest known planet from the Sun. It is the densest ice giant and the coldest with an average temperature of -353°F. Pressure is so extreme, falling methane is formed into diamonds.

Chesapeake & Ohio®
Road Number 307

This 70’ heavyweight baggage car is painted in the tri-color scheme and runs on 6-wheel passenger car trucks. Built in the 1920s, this BE-class car was used on revenue trains through the 1960s. The C&O was founded in 1869 and soon became one of the largest east-coast railroads in the United States.

Southern Pacific®
Road Numbers 62857/62903

SP® is a registered trademark of the Union Pacific Railroad.

These 39’ single dome tank cars are black with white lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. They were built in the 1940s and were marked with the SP “diamond-S” insignia, indicating sugar loading only. Serviced in 1964, they continued in revenue service for another decade or so before being relegated to MOW service.

Jack Frost
Road Number NSRX 307

This 3-bay covered hopper is blue with white band and red herald and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1954, this 2,893 cubic-foot three-bay hopper was part of a 10-car series lettered for The National Sugar Refining Company in the “Jack Frost Cane Sugar” scheme. These cars were primarily seen on the east coast, travelling between sugar refining plants, bakeries and confectionary manufacturers from the 1950s to the 1960s.

This 39’ single dome tank car is yellow with blue belly and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in October 1949, and serviced in 1961, this car belonged to a series of 8 cars painted similarly for the St. Lawrence Starch Company of Port Credit, Ontario. Used to transport corn syrup, they could be found in service between Port Credit and numerous candy and food companies in eastern Canada through the early 1980s.

DRGW® is a registered trademark of the Union Pacific Railroad.

This 70’ heavyweight baggage car is pullman green with gold lettering and runs on 4-wheel Commonwealth trucks. This baggage-express car was used on trains in the heart of the Rockies, such as the famous “Prospector.” D&RGW was formed in 1870 and operated the highest mainline railroad in the United States through the Colorado Rockies at an altitude of 10,240 feet.

Conrail
Road Number CR 492182

WITH HOPPER TOPPER!

This 100-ton 3-bay open hopper with rib sides is brown with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in October of 1979 at the Kentucky Raceland Shops, this was one of 130 non-sequential cars switched between coal service and grain service, seasonally, in the mid-1980s. After coal service, cars were washed thoroughly and the Conrail “Tupperware lid” topper was added to the car, making in essence, a weatherproof covered grain hopper.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Road Number BNSF 300863

This 89’ tri-level closed autorack is orange with black lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 2015, this autorack was delivered with a BNSF reporting mark and the new “swoosh” paint scheme. The 89’ enclosed autorack design became the universal standard used by most railroads. With end loading doors and enclosed sides, this design prevents vandalism and pilferage and helps to protect vehicles from the elements.

Northern Pacific
Road Number NP 57515

This 50’ steel dide, 14 panel, fixed end gondola with low cover is black with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1965, gondola was among the first to have the new Northern Pacific block lettering scheme applied. When empty, the car was to be returned to the CB&Q Railroad in Riverdale, Iowa.

This 40’ standard box car with single door is green with yellow lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built for the Toledo, Peoria & Western Railway, there were just two cars painted in this scheme. TP&W, founded in 1863, is headquartered in East Peoria and owns around 250 miles of track. The railroad interchanges with ten other railroads with track from Illinois to Indiana.

These 2-bay covered hoppers are grey with black lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1957 for ATSF, these 2,006 cubic-foot capacity hoppers have a 77-ton capacity. Small, two-bay hoppers were often used for relatively dense commodities, such as cement powder, sand, potash, and other fine-grained materials and usually had a similar loaded weight to larger and longer cars.

Built in October 1947, this R-40-23 class ice reefer had Preco air circulating fans and featured an all-welded underframe and additional insulation, compared to similar cars on other roads. Painted into the 1961 Pacific Fruit Express Scheme, many of the nearly 5,000 reefers in this class continued to roll in revenue service through the 1960s before being retired.
