Canadian Pacific
Road Number CP 81038

This 50’ standard box car with 8’ plug door, no roofwalk and short ladders is black with aluminum roof and green sides with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built by National Steel Car in 1967 as part of series 80967-81216, it bears the paint scheme which was developed to help distinguish the intended service for each car class, and the pine tree logo denotes newsprint service cars.

Railbox
Road Number 40188

This 50’ rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is pink with black lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Officially sanctioned by Railbox parent company TTX, an old and worn 50’ boxcar was painted bright pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness in 2017. At the unveiling ceremony on October 21st, TTX invited survivors to meet at the railcar and leave their handprints in paint on the sides of the car. This car continues to roll the rails in national boxcar pool service across the United States.

Union Pacific®
Road Number USAX 19419

WWII POSTER SERIES CAR #9

This 50’ troop kitchen car is dark green and runs on Allied Full Cushion trucks. During WWII, Union Pacific produced a variety of morale-boosting posters that depicted the railroad’s involvement in supporting the war. This car’s poster features a hand holding military vehicles over a train.

HEINZ® YELLOW REEFER SERIES CAR #2
Road Number 424

This 36’ wood sheathed ice reefer with truss rods is brown with yellow decorated sides and runs on Arch Bar trucks. With a fleet of 700 cars, HEINZ was able to ship their product by rail to major markets throughout the US. These yellow sided refrigerator cars represent railcars painted throughout the late 1900s and through the ‘teens’. All cars carried the distinctive “Heinz 57” but each car advertised a different product.

New York Central
Road Number 2825

This 78’ heavyweight paired-window coach car is painted in the two-tone post-war gray scheme and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. Built in the early 1920s by the Standard Steel Car Company and originally painted in “Pacemaker Green,” these commuter coaches were often seen throughout the NYC system. In 1953 they were rebuilt and equipped with air conditioning, repainted into the NYC two-tone gray paint scheme and served through the late 1960’s.

Great Northern
Road Number TTRX 905071

This 89’ tri-level open autorack is brown with yellow lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1968 by ACF as class F89UH, this 89’ car has an asymmetric tri-level Paragon rack installed. Used to ship new automobiles to the western states, this car was employed by Great Northern through the 1980s.

Swift Live Stock Express
Road Number SLSX 72221

This 40’ despatch stock car is brown with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Swift & Company was founded in 1875 by Gustavus Swift in Chicago, IL, and soon acquired the majority interest in a large Texas stockyard. In order to move cattle and processed meats, Swift pioneered several technologies including upgrades to stock cars and the refrigerated boxcar.

Road Number ROCK 510700

WITH COAL LOAD

This 33’ twin bay hopper with rib sides is blue with black and white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. This 510700 – 510999 series Rock Island two-bay hopper was freshly re-painted in the “new image” blue paint scheme in 1977. With a 2051 cubic foot capacity, these cars were used in general service for heavy aggregate commodities.

Pennsylvania
Road Number PRR 24115

This 40’ standard box car with single door is freight car red with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Rebuilt in the mid-1950s from an X29 boxcar, these X29D cars featured upgraded side plates and received the keystone logo and “Don’t Stand Me Still” slogan. They continued to be used in revenue service into the 1960s.

North American Container System

These 48’ rib side containers are aluminum with black lettering and multiple logos. Formed in the mid-1990s, North American Container System (NACS) was an intermodal equipment pool formed by Class 1 Railroads. Railroads participating included CSX, Conrail, BNSF, Canadian National and Kansas City Southern.

These EMD SD40-2 locomotives are grey with yellow band and red lettering. Used in high-speed intermodal trains in the Midwest and West coast, UP’s SD40-2’s went through several mechanical upgrades throughout their service lives. The EMD SD40-2 is a 3,000 horsepower, turbocharged locomotive with electronic control systems built from 1972 to 1989 with nearly 4,000 units produced. It was the best-selling EMD locomotive in history.

Built by Fruit Growers Express in 1981, these heavy-duty Department of Defense flat cars belong to series 40000-40100. They’re used by the US Army and USMC to transport M1 Abrams tanks and other heavy military vehicles across the United States between bases for training and deployment.
