Built in April of 1958, this PS-2 hopper with ASF Ride Control trucks was purchased by Great Northern in an order of 100 cars. The Pullman-Standard all-welded steel, 2,003 cubic-foot two bay covered hopper would become one of the most popular cars of its type with railroads and private industry. It was designed to haul everything from powdered chemicals, to grains, to construction materials such as sand or cement.

Great Northern

Built in the early 1940s, this 40’ double-door boxcar with Roller Bearing trucks was re-built in 1962 from the ground up, with upgraded steel construction to modern standards, including double doors. It was used in general service and had a 3,763 cubic-foot capacity. Great Northern was a Class 1 railroad founded in 1881 and eventually was merged with Northern Pacific and others to form Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970.

Built for a CSX heritage railroad, these 2-bay covered hoppers with Barber Roller Bearing trucks were shopped and repainted into the CSX tan paint scheme in the mid-1980s but retained their NYC reporting marks. CSX was formed through the 1986 mergers of Chessie System and Seaboard System/ Family Lines, and continues to operate today across more than 21,000 miles of track in the Eastern United States.

Built in the late 1940s, this 40’ double-door boxcar with Bettendorf trucks was rebuilt in the late 1960s by the Frascati Shops. It had a 3,899 cubic foot capacity and Evans DF-2 loaders. Founded in 1938 through a merger of the Gulf, Mobile & Northern and the Mobile & Ohio railroads, GM&O became a medium-sized Class I railroad with a main line between Mobile, Alabama, Kansas City, Kansas, and Chicago, Illinois.

Pennsylvania was a large Class 1 railroad formed in 1846 and grew to be a predominant shipper on the east coast until 1968 when it merged with rival New York Central to form Penn Central.
