Southern Pacific®
Road Number 401296

SP® is a registered trademark of the Union Pacific Railroad.

Built in March of 1957, this PS-2 bay hopper with Bettendorf trucks, was purchased by Southern Pacific in an order of 450 cars. The Pullman-Standard all-welded steel, 2,003 cubic-foot two bay covered hopper would become one of the most popular cars of its type with railroads and private industry. It was designed to haul everything from powdered chemicals, to grains, to construction materials such as sand or cement. Versatile and durable, this car continued in revenue service into the early 2000’s, and was sometimes found later in MOW service.

General American Transportation
Road Number30833

Built for General American Transportation Corporation in 2007, this 25,000 gallon 56' general service tank car with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was leased to the Renewable Energy Group for biodiesel transportation. General American Transportation Corporation, now known simply as GATX, is a large railcar leasing company, with over 122,000 railcars in the fleet.

Canadian National / ICG
Road Numbers 245605, 245632

This 50' gondola with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was built in the late 1970s for Illinois Central Gulf. It later made its way to the Canadian National Railroad through the 1998 merger. Canadian National is one of the largest railroads headquartered in Canada, with over 20,000 miles of track and service from Canada into the United States.

Illinois Terminal

Norfolk Southern Family Tree Car #3

Built for the Illinois Terminal, this 50’ flat car with Barber Roller Bearing trucks made its way to the Norfolk & Western roster and was later patched with a new reporting mark. It is now in MOW service with Norfolk Southern. The Illinois Terminal was founded in 1896 and operated until 1982, when it was merged with the Norfolk & Western Railway. It operated trackage in Central Illinois and Missouri.

Kansas City Southern
Road Number 224136

Kansas City Southern was founded in 1887 and is a Class I railroad operating over 3,400 miles of track and operates across ten Midwest and Southeastern states. In April 2023, Canadian Pacific merged with Kansas City Southern, forming Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway. This is a 100 ton 3-bay hopper that rides on Barber Roller Bearing trucks.

This 100-ton ballast hopper with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was built in 1973 for Soo Line. Soo Line was in operation from 1949 until 1990, when it was consolidated into Canadian Pacific.

Formed in 1983, the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern is a regional freight railroad operating 300 miles of track in eastern Pennsylvania, and is celebrating 40 years in operation in 2023. Sometimes shortened to just “Reading & Northern,” the railroad primarily transports coal, but also operates a fleet of general service freight cars to service various industries along the way. This is a 60' Boxcar that rides on Barber Roller Bearing trucks.

Southern Pacific operated a private railroad police department and enforcement agency that protected the properties, facilities, right of way and equipment. Southern Pacific was a Class 1 railroad from 1865 until 1996, when it was absorbed by Union Pacific after falling on hard times financially in the 1970s and 1980s.

Clean and Weathered Conrail Trailer 4-Packs

The Conrail Trailvan service was Conrail’s North American intermodal brand, and in the 1980s and 1990s, these trailers could be found in intermodal service nationwide. New York Central merged with its rival, the Pennsylvania Railroad, in 1968 to form Penn Central, which went bankrupt two years later and was merged into Conrail in 1976.

Built by Medford, Talent & Lakecreek in 1926, this car served various orchards and fruitpackers around the Rogue Valley. The Medford, Talent & Lakecreek Railroad was established in 1918 to serve the communities throughout Oregon’s Rogue Valley, helping move commodities to the Southern Pacific interchanges. The success of the modest shortline revolved around serving various agricultural, timber, and manufacturing industries, as well as some passenger and tourist traffic in the region

Built in 1979, these 100-ton 2-bay covered hoppers were 2,700 cubic feet in capacity and were painted in the new Chessie System yellow and blue scheme. Chessie System was formed through the 1972 mergers of Chesapeake & Ohio, Baltimore & Ohio, and Western Maryland. It remained one of the largest East coast railroads until 1986 when Seaboard System merged with Chessie to form today’s rail giant, CSX Transportation.

The Medford, Talent and Lake Creek Railroad was established in 1918 to help local Rogue Valley communities move commodities to the Southern Pacific interchanges. The success of the model shortline in the early days brought not only commercial interests, but tourist traffic to the region. Norfolk and Western Car # 402 was an important part of the N&W's safety and accident prevention program. This Safety-First Car consistently traveled all over railroad educating thousands of employees every year on accident prevention. The NW Car changed from #4002 diner to #402 Safety Inspection Car on 5/19/1941 and was retired from this special job in 2/1969

In an effort to provide fast "door to door" freight service, the Southern Pacific Railroad developed what would be famously known as "The Overnight" train to deliver critical cargo by the next morning. The first of these fast trains began service in 19336 and fielded unit trains overall black with high-speed trucks. The black cars stayed in service until 1956 when the scheme changed to overall silver.
