These 4180 cu. ft. Airslide hoppers with Barber Roller Bearing trucks were built in 1973. With a special epoxy lining, these cars were specifically designed for use with fine-grained commodities, like powdered sugar, that could settle en-route making unloading difficult. Union Pacific is now exclusively a freight railroad with over 32,000 miles of track, but prior to 1971, UP also operated numerous passenger trains and services.

Built in 1943 for New York Central, this general purpose flat car with Bettendorf trucks later found its way into the Penn Central merger of 1968, and received new PC green paint and logos. Penn Central was formed through the merger of Pennsylvania Railroad and New York Central, and operated until 1976 when it was rolled into Conrail Corporation.

Built in the mid-1950s, this 40’ ex-Seaboard Coast Line boxcar with Bettendorf trucks was patched for the Seaboard System “Family Lines” Railroad. Seaboard Air Line merged with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1967, forming the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, which was then renamed Seaboard System in 1982. At its height, it had over 4,000 miles of track across the South.

Great Northern

WITH CATTLE AND SHEEP LOADS
Built in the late 1920s, these stock cars with Bettendorf trucks were primarily used for cattle, but also carried sheep and other livestock. Great Northern was a Class 1 railroad founded in 1881 and eventually was merged with Northern Pacific and others to form Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970.
This 30-ton caboose with Bettendorf trucks was of a design built from the 1920s-1940s. It was modernized in the late 1950s and repainted. Incorporated in 1881, Canadian Pacific Railway is one of the largest Class 1 Railroads in Canada, owning over 12,000 miles of track in Canada and the United States.

These tank cars with Barber Roller Bearing trucks was built by TrinityRail for Deep Rock Refining Co. in 2014, and is used for hot asphalt service. Founded in 1913 by H.M. Byllesby, a Chicago investment banker, Deep Rock grew in the 1920s and 30s with the purchase of several rivals. Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it was purchased by the Kerr-McGee Corporation in 1955.
