Built for Union Pacific in 1924, and was repainted into the postwar two-tone grey scheme in 1946. It was used to transport valuable race horses between race tracks and training facilities through the 1950s.

These 40’ double-sheathed wood reefers with vertical brake wheel are brown with green or yellow sides and run on Bettendorf trucks. The Northern Refrigerator Car Company was founded by the Cudahy brothers in Milwaukee, WI. In 1928 the company was purchased by Merchants Despatch Transportation Company, but retained the NRCC reporting mark on all 3,700 reefers. Refrigerator cars like this were used to transport bananas from the deep south to more northern states.

The Arizona & California Railroad is a short line railroad that began operations in May 1991, and is currently owned by Genesee & Wyoming. These 100000-100024 series A&C well cars accepted containers up to 48’ in length in the bottom well position. The Husky-Stack® well car was first introduced in 1990 at the International Intermodal Expo in Atlanta, GA.

This 33’ twin bay hopper with offset sides is maroon with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. This former Reading twin bay hopper was of Conrail class HR5A and was used for coal and iron ore service. It was built in the early 1950s and continued in use by Conrail through the early 1980s before being retired from service.

Heinz Company was founded in 1869 by Henry John Heinz, first manufacturing horseradish. By the early 1900s, Heinz was manufacturing over 60 food products and relied heavily on their fleet of over 700 colorful billboard boxcars to distribute their products across the country.

This 39’ single dome tank car is black with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1924 by American Car & Foundry, these 12,500 gallon capacity tank cars were reconditioned in Omaha and renumbered to the 69500 – 69740 series in 1955. They were used for everything from molasses to fuel oil.

This 78’ heavyweight paired-window coach car is painted Tuscan Red with PRR buff herald and lettering, it was based on the Baltimore & Ohio Plan #2882-B. The roof is black. It was built in the 1930s by Pullman Standard and ran from the 1930s through the 1960s on six-wheel passenger trucks. It was one of the typical coach styles that served many of the passenger car fleets. Not only could they be found in both local and regional trains, but these cars lasted long into the era of Lightweight Passenger Cars and many went on to serve a variety roles including commuter and MOW service.

Originally built in the mid-1940s for Union Pacific, this 40’ box car was later converted in 1952 into an impact instruction car at the Omaha shops. Serving to illustrate the importance of safe car handling, this car had a transparent sidewall to show cargo movement, along with force and speed gauges displayed on the side. Our model will feature a transparent side and interior load.

These SW1500 locomotives are black with white band and gold lettering and run on Flexicoil trucks. Built in 1968 for Southern Railway in an order of 30, these switchers were used in both yard and transfer service throughout the carriers’ terminal areas, but concentrated in the Carolinas, Ohio and Alabama regions.

These SW1500 locomotives are grey with red deck and white lettering and run on Flexicoil trucks. Built in 1971 for Cotton Belt in an order of 8 units, these switchers replaced an aging fleet of Alcos, Baldwins, and early EMDs, and were used in both yard and transfer service throughout the carriers’ terminal areas. These road numbers belong to one of the final orders Cotton Belt placed for SW1500s.

The Navy had five of these DODX flat cars specifically tasked with safely carrying submarine ballistic missile bodies from ordinance depot bunkers to piers. Support brackets were attached to the deck to carry a barrel that could be tilted up for unloading once delivered dockside. Each car will include a two-piece resin-cast load. These cars can still be found in service moving propulsion units to the fleet.
