This 50’ standard box car with short ladders, single 10’ door and no roofwalk is green with white lettering and runs on Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1968 by Pullman-Standard, this car was among 3,400 built for the GM&O. Using new technology for the time, these boxcars had Hydroframe-40 draft gear cushioning, ten foot doors, ASF trucks, and four Evans DF-2 belt rails.

This 50’ standard box car with short ladders, plug door and no roofwalk is brown with white lettering and runs on Roller Bearing trucks. Built in the 1950s by Pullman-Standard, this 55000-55272 series ATSF box car was rebuilt by the Topeka Shops in 1979, and received upgraded brake valves, trucks, and fresh paint. It served for at least another 10 years before being scrapped.

This 50’ standard box car with short ladders, double doors and no roofwalk is brown with white lettering and aluminum roof and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. This 65200-65299 series double door box car was built in the late 1960s, and had all of the newest technology; Evans DF loaders, cushioned draft gear and nailable steel floors. Some cars in this series were specially outfitted to carry specific cargo like vanadium ore.

Friendship Train Series - Car #6: Union Pacific® “Arkansas Rice” RD#: 187989
This 40’ standard box car with single door is brown with white and yellow lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. The 1947 Friendship Train collected food donated by Americans in cities all across the U.S. to be shipped to the people of France and Italy who desperately needed help following the end of World War II. Ultimately, over 250 railcars of food and clothing were donated.

NASA Series Car #11 RD#: NLAX 194
This 39’ single dome tank car is white with black lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. This 70-ton car was built from sections of old tank cars, and when completed, held approximately 15,000 gallons of water. It was initially used to chemically eradicate weeds along the NASA KSC right of way, but was later used as an auxiliary water source for firefighting.

This 10-1-2 heavyweight sleeper car is painted in Rio Grande gold, silver and black and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. This D&RGW sleeper, named “Harrison Lake,” was assigned service on the Royal Gorge train. This 1924-built car continued in service until 1966 when it was retired and dismantled.

Canadian Pacific RD#: CP 400006/400011
These 56’ general service tank cars are black with white lettering and ‘Pac-Man’ logo and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1975, they had a 24,900 cubic foot capacity and were primarily used for oil service on long-distance manifest freight trains. These cars were in service until the early 1990s.
This 61’ bulkhead flat car is brown with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1978 by Thrall for the Southern Railway, it was quickly absorbed into NS during the 1982 merger. Used to carry heavy loads, bulkheads on each end prevent horizontal shifting from sudden acceleration or deceleration of the train.

Circus Series - Car #6: Great Northern RD#: GN 3336
This 40’ standard box car with double doors is green with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. In an effort to develop a new paint scheme, Great Northern decorated a number of box cars in different experimental paint schemes in 1956 and sent them across the GN network for feedback. Due to the bright and gaudy colors, this group of cars were dubbed the “Circus Cars”.

Kansas City Southern RD#: KCS 400/402
These 50’ standard box cars with single doors are black with white lettering and red and yellow band and run on Roller Bearing trucks. Built in October of 1941 and originally numbered into series 25100-25288, four cars were eventually converted into express box cars in 1948 and numbered into the series 400-403. They were equipped with special racks for loading Chevrolet front axles.

BNSF Fuselage Transportation 4-pack
Boeing receives their fuselages and other assemblies from Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita, Kansas by rail. Fuselages are regularly in transit between Wichita and Renton to keep up Boeing’s production rate of more than forty 737’s per month. This 4-pack features four BNSF flat cars, two plastic-injection fuselages, two resin tool boxes and supporting brackets.

NASA Hydrogen Car
NASA purchased this 83 foot, 70-ton tank car new from Linde in 1965, which held 34,400 gallons of refrigerated liquid hydrogen for use in support of the Space Shuttle Program. Refrigeration equipment was housed in one end, along with a manway that provided access to the tank’s interior. This custom, ready-to-run car is a true multi-media project featuring a resin cast tank, laser cut components for the underframe, 3D printed bolsters and photo-etched deck and end railing. Commissioned by the Department of Defense, Fruit Growers Express (FGE) produced a multipurpose 68’ flat car in 1981 designed to carry the weight of two M1 Abram tanks. DODX painted and marked these cars in various schemes and they can still be found in long consists today. This all-new body style will feature a finely detailed deck with vehicle tie-down channels, mounting points for containers, an all-new underframe as well as new 6-wheel Roller Bearing Buckeye trucks and body-mounted couplers. Each flat car will come with our new plastic injection molded, easy-to-build kits of the M1 Abram tank with chain tie-downs! In additional, we’ll also produce the lighter capacity cars painted in red with 4-wheel trucks which could carry just a single M1 tank.

Navy 5-pack
The Navy had five of these DODX flat cars specifically tasked with safely carrying shipboard booster rockets from ordinance depot bunkers to piers. Support brackets were attached to the deck to carry a barrel that could be tilted up for unloading once delivered dockside. Each car will include a two-piece resin-cast load. These cars can still be found in service moving propulsion units to the fleet.
