Canadian National

RD#: ‘Gatineau’

This 28-1 heavyweight parlor car is painted green with black band and yellow lettering and runs on 6-wheel passenger trucks. Canadian National’s responsibility was to provide interconnecting rail service across some of the most barren and harsh environments. Besides providing basic accommodations for long cross-continental trips, CN also made available parlor cars that were outfitted with the finest accommodations to attract first class passengers.

Union Pacific®

These 40’ standard box cars with plug & sliding door are synthetic red with white lettering and runon Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1963 as part of series 111000-111499 these cars were used by manyrailroads to transport oversized freight or finished lumber which required double door cars like these tomake loading and unloading easier. The plug door allowed for freight to be stacked against it when sealed, unlike sliding doors, allowing for increased capacity.

Canadian Pacific

RD#: CP 287188/287227

These 51’ rivet side mechanical reefer are aluminum with black lettering and ‘Pac-man’ logo and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1967 by National Steel Car Co. as part of series 287100-287256, these cars were fitted with rails inside to transport meat across the western provinces of Canada.

Per Diem Series Car #5 - Atlanta & St. Andrews Bay

RD#: ASAB 7035

This 50’ rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is red/orange with black lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. In 1906 ASAB was considered a Class 1 railroad which operated in Alabama and Florida hauling lumber and general freight. Running between Dothan, Alabama and Panama City, Florida, the railroad took advantage of the Per Diem program in the 1970s in an effort to modernize its freight cars and compete with larger roads in the region. They were later acquired by The Bay Line in 1994.

Norfolk & Western - **One-Of-A-Kind**

RD#: NW 1776

This 100-ton 3-bay open hopper with rib sides and coal load is probably the most colorful car ever to set wheels on the Norfolk & Western. Originally built in July 1975 as #138699 it was repainted and renumbered to #1776 that same year to commemorate the United States Bicentennial. It runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks.

Norfolk & Western - **One-Of-A-Kind**

To celebrate the US Bicentennial in 1976, a number of railroads modified engines, freight cars and even trailers in unique and colorful red white and blue schemes. N&W went bold with their design and decorated this single 40’ trailer that made the rounds throughout their route during and after the celebration.

Stark Bros.

This 40’ double-sheathed wood box car with single door is white with black lettering and runs on Andrews trucks. The Stark Brothers Fruit Company has been around since 1816 and its famous black bear logo was as common as a famous cola company artwork during the early 1900’s. Transporting fruit, fruit products and even wine from Louisiana to Missouri, the company was lauded by the likes of Luther Burbank for their efforts to protect growers by sponsoring legislation in the 1930’s allowing them to patent their unique varieties.

Great Northern

These 40’ box cars with single door and no roofwalk are painted blue with white lettering and run on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1960 as part of series 11375-11875, these bear the simplified goat logo that would be standardized until the road merged with several others to form Burlington Northern in 1970.

RD#: SRN 5149

This 50’ rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is red with white lettering and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. The Sabine River & Northern Railroad began in 1965 providing freight services for industries between Lemonville and Lake Charles, Texas. SRN owns 40 miles of track that services businesses that provide wood products and shipping from the coast. They are currently owned by International Paper company and interchange with both the UP and BNSF railroads at the north end of their line.
